Alpaca Bed Blanket
In the highlands of Ecuador, where the alpaca grazes on ancient grasslands and the air is thin and clear, a family outside the indigenous town of Otavalo weaves these blankets by hand. Otavalo has been a center of fiber artistry for generations — a place where the knowledge of the loom passes from mother to daughter, where skilled hands honor a tradition older than memory. When we traveled to Ecuador in 2013 seeking all things alpaca, these blankets were among our most treasured finds.
Alpaca fiber is one of creation’s most generous gifts — softer than wool, warmer by weight, and naturally breathable through every season. This blanket wraps you in that provision: a covering that regulates, comforts, and endures. Lay it across your bed as a primary blanket, tuck it between sheet and comforter for added warmth, or carry it into the world on camping trips and open roads. It is the kind of companion that only grows more beloved with use.
