An angel, hammered from steel, glowing with light. ✨

The Angel Votive & Pencil Holder is one of those pieces that stops you when you see it — a hand-cut, hand-hammered angel in recycled steel, intricate and luminous, beautiful in the light of day and breathtaking when lit from within by a small candle. The light passes through every cut in the metal and throws patterns of warmth and shadow across the room, turning the angel into something that feels less like a decoration and more like a small act of worship. Use it as a votive holder with a tea light or small candle. Use it to hold pencils, pens, or brushes on a desk. Fill it with candy canes at Christmas. Set it on a windowsill, a mantle, a bookshelf, a bedside table. Wherever it goes, it brings the presence of something sacred and beautiful into the space. At 3.25" x 4", it is the perfect size for a desk, a shelf, or a gift — small enough to go anywhere, beautiful enough to be the most noticed thing in the room.

The Art of Croix-des-Bouquets

This angel was handcrafted at the Village Artistique de Noailles in Croix-des-Bouquets — the most celebrated center of metal art in the Caribbean, and one of the most remarkable folk art communities in the world. The tradition of Haitian metal art was born in the mid-20th century, when artists in Croix-des-Bouquets discovered that discarded steel oil drums — the cast-off material of industry — could be cut, hammered, and shaped into works of extraordinary beauty. What began as an act of creative resourcefulness became a living art tradition, passed down through generations of skilled metal artists who have made Croix-des-Bouquets famous around the world. Each piece begins as a recycled steel drum, flattened and coated with a protective gloss varnish, then cut and hammered by hand into the intricate designs that have become the signature of this tradition. Because every piece is made by hand, there will be slight variations from one angel to the next — each one unique, each one carrying the mark of the artist who made it.

The Artist

This piece was created by Jeanclaude Pierre, one of the skilled metal artists of the Village Artistique de Noailles. His work carries the full weight of the Croix-des-Bouquets tradition — the precision of the cut, the beauty of the form, the life that comes through in every hammered line. When you hold this angel, you are holding the work of his hands.
