The board that sets itself up. The Acacia Wood Charcuterie & Serving Board by Kalmar Home is perfectly sized for a generous spread — a large loaf of bread, a selection of cheeses, cured meats, fruit, and two dips or condiments nestled into their own lidded ceramic bowls. Everything in its place. Everything ready to serve.
The two white ceramic bowls — 3.75” diameter each — sit in indented spaces carved into the board, keeping them stable and beautifully positioned throughout the meal. Fill them with hummus and olive tapenade, honey and whole grain mustard, jam and soft cheese — whatever the spread calls for. The acacia wood lids keep contents fresh before guests arrive and double as a detail that makes the board look finished even before the food is arranged. Remove the bowls entirely and the full 15” x 12” surface opens up for a larger spread.
Acacia wood holds a sacred place in the Biblical story. It was the wood chosen by God for the construction of the Ark of the Covenant, the Tabernacle’s framework, and the altar of burnt offering — selected for its exceptional density, durability, and resistance to decay in the harsh conditions of the wilderness. In the ancient Near East, acacia was the wood of sacred things: strong enough to endure, beautiful enough to honor. To bring acacia wood into the home is to bring something of that ancient, enduring quality to the everyday table.
The warm grain of the board, the clean white of the ceramic, the natural wood lids — together they make a board that is as lovely on the counter as it is on the table.
“Have them make an ark of acacia wood… overlay it with pure gold.” — Exodus 25:10–11
