These placemats began as cotton in Uganda. They were hand-spun into yarn on traditional looms in Kenya by the artisans of Siafu Home — weavers whose craft is not a production process but a living tradition, passed down through generations of skilled hands. The grey tones of the Rangi Placemats are drawn from the natural colors of the Kenyan savannah — the warm grey of dry earth, the soft silver of acacia bark in the morning light, the quiet, grounded palette of a landscape that has been beautiful since the beginning of creation.
“Rangi” means color in Swahili — and these placemats are color in its most honest form: not dyed to trend, not manufactured to match a season, but drawn from the earth itself and woven into cotton by hands that know the land. Each placemat is 18.3" x 13" — the generous size that anchors a place setting, protects the table, and makes every meal feel like it was set with intention. Set of 4, for a table that seats four with grace.
Hand-spun on traditional looms, the production of these placemats creates as low a carbon footprint as possible — the old way of making things, honored because it is still the best way. 100% organic cotton, 0.5 lbs per set, soft and substantial, washable and lasting. The placemat that gets better with every wash and more beautiful with every use.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” — Psalm 24:1
