The Art of Turkish Weaving

Originally used in Turkish baths, Turkish textiles — known as peshtamels or hammam towels — have been hand-loomed in Turkey for centuries using extra-long, tightly woven fibers. Our throws are woven by skilled artisans in family-owned workshops in Denizli, where weaving is both livelihood and legacy. Tassels are hand-knotted by women in their homes. Only OEKO-TEX certified, 100% natural fibers and non-harmful dyes are used.

A Craft Rooted in Biblical History

The land of Turkey — ancient Anatolia — is one of the most storied places in all of Scripture. It was here that the Apostle Paul walked and preached, planting churches in Ephesus, Colossae, Galatia, and Laodicea. It was here that the seven churches of Revelation stood. And it was here, in this same ancient land, that the art of weaving textiles was already thousands of years old when Paul wrote his letters. The region of Denizli, where these throws are woven today, sits near the ancient city of Laodicea — a city renowned in the ancient world for the exceptional quality of its wool and woven cloth. The textile tradition of this land is not merely historical — it is Biblical. When Paul wrote to the Colossians and the Laodiceans, he was writing to communities of weavers and cloth merchants whose hands worked the same looms, in the same region, as the artisans who made this throw. To bring one into your home is to hold something woven from a tradition that stretches back to the very world of the New Testament — a living thread connecting the ancient and the present, the sacred and the everyday.
