Agora — from the ancient Greek, the gathering place. The open marketplace of the ancient world where people came together to trade, to talk, to share a meal, to be in community. In the New Testament, the agora was where Paul stood in Athens and reasoned with the philosophers, where the early believers met and spoke and carried the good news into the public square. It is the word for the place where life happens together.
It is the right name for a coaster. The KORISSA Agora Coaster & Trivet is the piece that makes the table a gathering place — 100% handmade from jute by Fair Trade artisans in Bangladesh, woven by skilled hands into a 6" round form that is durable, absorbent, and neutral enough to belong in any decor, in any season, on any table. Use it as a coaster to protect the surface from cups and glasses. Use it as a trivet to protect the table from warm dishes and pots. At 6" round, it is generous enough for both.
Jute is one of the oldest natural fibers in the world — grown in the river deltas of South Asia, harvested by hand, and woven into forms that are as beautiful as they are functional. The natural and white tones of the Agora coaster are the colors of undyed, honest material — warm, earthy, and quietly beautiful. Each coaster is handmade, and slight variations in design, color, and size are the natural signature of a piece made by human hands rather than a machine.
Designed and curated by KORISSA, sustainably handmade by Fair Trade artisans in Bangladesh. Set of 4 — enough for a full table of guests, enough for the coffee table, the kitchen island, the dining table, the side table by the reading chair.
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together… but encouraging one another.” — Hebrews 10:24–25
