Mouth-blown glass is one of the oldest and most demanding of the glassmaking crafts — a technique that has been practiced for over two thousand years and that no machine has ever been able to fully replicate. A glassblower gathers molten glass on the end of a long metal pipe, then shapes it entirely through breath and movement — rotating the pipe, controlling the airflow, coaxing the glass into form through a combination of physical skill and intuitive judgment that takes years to develop. The result is a vessel of extraordinary quality: the glass has a warmth and a slight irregularity that machine-made glass never achieves, a sense of being genuinely made rather than produced.
